We can’t wait to welcome you to the farm to celebrate the cows heading back to pasture. What started 10 years ago as a small gathering has grown into an amazing community celebration of spring, happy cows, and local food.
To help things run smoothly, we’ve created an event map. Yard parking is reserved for seniors and those with mobility needs. General parking is along the north and south sides of 16th St, with volunteers guiding traffic—please follow their direction.
The Creston Farmers Market will be joining us in the pasture just south of parking, and we’ll have bale seating set up for great views of the cows’ spring dance.
Cows head out at 11:30 (timing may shift slightly for parking).

Our Spring Turnout event is set for April 18th this year!

In the meantime, these calves and nurse cows are enjoying the sunshine today while we get the calf barn cleaned up with some fresh bedding.

This week started with a challenge — the motor that runs our filler decided to quit right as we began a bottling run. But around here, adversity is just another opportunity to get creative. With a little ingenuity (and a drill!), we got the filler running again and kept things moving.
The result? Over 8,000 L of milk bottled and filled. Not bad for a week that tried to slow us down.
That’s farm life — problem solving, teamwork, and getting the job done no matter what. 🚜

2026 has been named Year of the Female Farmer, and I’m excited to share a glimpse of what that looks like here at Kootenay Meadows. 🌾🐄
This year I’ll be posting some videos each season showing a day in the life of a female dairy farmer. Being in the minority as a female dairy farmer is something I’m proud of, but I was also raised in a family that believed the farm was a place to learn, work, and grow—no matter your gender.
Most days, I simply want to be known as a farmer. But I also recognize how important it is for women and girls to see that this life is possible for them too.
Here’s a look at late winter on the farm. ❄️

The good the bad and the ugly all in one

Had a stressful and scary situation delivering this calf. Initially I didn’t think the calf was alive and didn’t know if I could save the cow. It’s a massive adrenaline dump when something like this happens and you have to move quickly to save the animals. I was able to deliver the calf safely but was then at a loss for how to help it due to the stress of its birth. I am so grateful I could call my friends @stillwiensranch for help and they recommended giving the calf time and not intervening right away. This was absolutely the right decision and both are doing fantastic!

Poopy start to 2026 💩

Our manure system has been a real challenge the last few months. We rang in 2026 by digging out our gutter system to make a repair. Not how you want to start the year but incredibly grateful for Nolan from Smith Site Services who has been a major help using his excavator, willingness to deal with manure and ability to come when the breaks happen, usually at the most inconvenient times. Couldn’t ask for a better person to be working with!

Nolan also did an amazing job on our yard this fall, we were dealing with mud and muck and he graded the driveway, cleared the drains and packed new material down. Even with the wet winter weather our yard is dry and clean, which feels like a major treat when dealing with other issues. He was incredibly knowledgeable and had multiple suggestions and options to get us to where we wanted to be.

Any digging, excavation or fencing you need done, Nolan at Smith Site Services is a great choice!

Today we had some major challenges with our main delivery truck breaking down as it started its deliveries in Kimberly.

Grateful to Stoke Market for being so patient with their parking lot being partly blocked by the truck all day and then being incredibly generous to offer us their delivery truck so at least our Kimberly deliveries could happen. They are the best kind of partners to have and on a rough day that helping hand from a fellow small business owner is appreciated.

Mountain Mechanical sent out a mobile tech to check the truck for us, unfortunately couldn’t be fixed on site but grateful they made it out to check for us.

Van Horne Towing and Recovery was incredibly responsive and great to deal with getting the semi and trailer repositioned so the semi could then be towed to Cranbrook for the repairs.

We have a back up truck so deliveries will continue today and milk will keep flowing into our local stores. Definitely one of the more exhausting days of problem solving but it is the reality of small business and deliveries in the Kootenays.

Even on Christmas?? 🎅🎄

I distinctly remember being in high school and a friends mind was blown that we milked cows everyday, even on Christmas.

Annarose and I made sure everyone was fed, milked, bedded and cozy this morning. The calves had no complaints about a green Christmas while they bounced around the paddock. Last week we also added some pigs to the gaggle of animals and they are happy and cozy in their deep straw.

We are so excited to get to be part of the 5th annual Christmas in the Buff tonight! This wonderful holiday tradition that was started by @buffalotrailscoffeehouse. We will be arriving at Buffalo Trails at 2 pm to pick up our first round of hot chocolate and cookies we will deliver to the local seniors. We will make 4 trips to visit Swan Valley, Crestview, the Bungalow and Nikkly Place.

Buffalo Trails will have all sorts of amazing Christmas goodies and have a ton of local potters set up to sell mugs!

Our family absolutely loves parades and has a bit of a competitive streak so we are already plotting for 2026.

If you missed the horses tonight they will be back on Main Street on Friday December 12th for the 5th annual Christmas in the Buff! This event is near and dear to our heart, where we get to deliver hot chocolate and cookies along with Christmas cheer to our local seniors. Also can’t wait to pursue the Mug Market featuring local potters.

Whole milk is here to stay!

Whole milk will remain as our main product moving forward. We will have our Whole Homogenized, Whole Cream Line, Whole Chocolate and a NEW Whole MINT Chocolate over the Holiday season!

This breakdown has allowed us to really reflect on why we started processing. As the only organic dairy in our region and because we were really proud of the milk our cows produce my parents built our processing plant and started making raw milk cheese in 2007. Then in 2011 we began bottling our milk in our glass bottles as well.

Our raw milk cheese and whole milk is really the most authentic way to share the incredible milk our cows produce for us. In a processing landscape where ultra high temp and extensive handling is becoming the norm we really want to get back to our roots and focus on showcasing the incredible product our area and herd create.

We also just needed a bit of a deep breath and the streamlining of doing whole milk is allowing us that. We have ideas for how we can bring back our creams at some point but it won’t be until we can ensure we can do it with zero waste. We are sorry the cream and our lower fats won’t be available.

We are so grateful for everyone that has followed us along this journey ❤️

Decadence in a bottle 🍫

We made a limited run out of chocolate milk yesterday using our full fat milk. Though it’s a biased opinion I’d say it’s pretty stinking delicious, extra depth of chocolatey deliciousness and such a creamy finish. In our farm shop now and delivering through the West Kootenays today.

To get this product our right away, we needed to get new cap labels printed and Rook Design Media in Creston was absolutely amazing and got them printed for us in one day, over 3500 stickers! We spent the day popping them on while they came off the filler.

Whole Milk coming this week!!

We have cried, we have sworn and we have problem solved. Unfortunately the parts I went to Seattle for have not been able to fix our plant breakdown issues. We do have parts coming from Italy but they will take a while to get here.

So we have decided to take the opportunity of this breakdown to launch Whole Milk. This will be our full fat milk, which is 4.7% right now. We will be offering both homogenized and cream line, in both our 946 mL and 1.89 L bottles. This is as close to raw as we can legally sell and is the most natural product we can possibly make. Hoping people will try it and enjoy and this will maybe turn out to be a happy accident.

Hopefully I will have good news in the next few days and we will be back to supplying the Kootenays with our organic, grass fed milk.

Fall projects on the farm 🔨🍂

We are soaking up the last days of October and working on some projects around the farm. A beauty of the heifers and dry cows spending summer outside is it gives us time to do repairs and maintenance around the barns when they are empty. Today we poured a new feed bunk for our close up dry cows, this pen will house our cows for the last month of their pregnancy in the winter.

Huge shout out to the driver from Sullivan Stone who was incredibly helpful in directing us and suggested we use pails instead of shovel. Which though my shoulders disagree right now was definitely easier. Big thanks to my Dad Wayne that came back to the farm to give us guidance on how to set up the form and planning the rebar to hopefully make sure we don’t need to do this wall again any time soon. Finally super grateful for Eugene that has recently joined our team and will be doing most of the repairs and maintenance around the farm.

We are also busy getting manure onto the fields and some final tillage, so lots happening around the farm and looking forward to the slightly steadier pace of winter.

We were closed last Saturday so that Jared and I could get hitched on the farm. The cows were very happy to be front and center in our photos. We are both looking forward to continuing our farm’s legacy into the future. Stay tuned for additional projects coming up as Jared gets more involved on the farm.

The twins have been slow to learn to latch to their mom so have been bottle feeding to make sure they are getting enough. They have now decided Jared is their dad.

Double Trouble 🎀🎀

Beautiful set of twin heifers born on the farm yesterday. These little girls are tiny but feisty.

These lovely little gals’ mom will get to be a nurse cow and raise them and one other calf until weaning then reenter the milking herd.

With cows if you have a set of male/female twins there is a high likelihood the female won’t ever be able to have calves, so always a relief with twins when it’s two females.
